Google and Nest have a close relationship with the latter demoing Home/Assistant integration at the former’s major October 4th hardware event. Given this, Alphabet is now reportedly considering a merger of Nest into Google’s purview and specifically Rick Osterloh’s hardware division.
This makes so much sense, it’s a wonder it didn’t happen sooner. I ‘m curious what sorts of changes this will bring to the hardware design both companies have released recently or have yet to release, such as Nest’s Hello doorbell. I’ve really liked the industrial design of both Nest and Google’s latest devices, I don’t know which I’d rather see the company pursue should the two merge.
